Carlton (2008 pop. est. 770) is the county seat for Carlton County and gateway to the rushing rapids and splendid scenery of Jay Cooke State Park. Historically significant for its rich history of fur exploration, white pine logging and early railroad activity, the present-day Carlton offers small-town charm and many recreational amenities. Businesses enjoy convenient highway transportation via Interstate 35 and Minnesota Highways 45 and 210, along with close proximity to several colleges and universities, progressive health care and skilled workers in the Twin Ports and surrounding area. |
