Deer River (2008 pop. est. 918) is a quiet farming and logging community with an active tourist industry. The city's industrial climate has improved in the last few years with the opening of many new businesses, most centered in the service industry catering to tourists.

The community has much to offer residents and businesses, including sewer and water, police and fire protection, community medical care with a well-staffed hospital and clinic, competitively priced electricity and quality schools.
