Leading Employers

The Duluth/Superior Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) has a strong and diversified base of industries. The three-county area, including St. Louis County and Carlton County, Minn. and Douglas County, Wis., is rich in natural resources and strategically located at the western edge of the Great Lakes.

Historic industries include wood products, mineral production, transportation, health care, education and tourism. In recent years, the region has cultivated strong clusters of aviation related businesses, information technology companies, precision manufacturers, high-end customer service centers and other industries that complement its workforce and assets.

Both the University of Minnesota Duluth and University of Wisconsin Superior provide research and development resources to help companies explore opportunities, develop products, and bring ideas to market. There is a well-developed network of public and private sector economic development partners to aid with growth and expansion needs.
